Living Water

Third Sunday in Lent - Sermon Text: John 4:10; Readings: Psalm 95:1-9; Exodus 17:1-7; John 4:5-26
Our sin has left us parched & thirsty. The polluted puddles of this world’s religions & spiritualities can’t quench the deep thirst we have for righteousness, wholeness & peace. Only God can provide Living Water which flows freely like a stream. Only God in the flesh opens that stream to us so that we may drink & live.
Morning Refreshment
Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16b
My hike up the mountain trail required determination and deep breaths. I willed my legs to pull me up over rocks and tree roots. My effort and tired legs reminded me I needed regular exercise. I hesitated when I saw bear tracks and glanced up at the incline with trepidation. Just past a patch of ferns, I heard the waterfall’s roar and forgot the bear. Minnehaha Falls cascaded over multi-step rock formations. The breathtaking sight and sound of the water, as well as the earthy smell of the forest and the crisp air, refreshed and energized me for the day ahead. Just as the beauty and coolness of the forest waterfall refreshed me physically, God’s Word renews my soul each morning. Scripture reveals God’s character and tells me I can trust Him and depend on His strength for the day.
