You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house ...
Deuteronomy 6:7
Just words. Eggs. Oatmeal. Paprika. That’s what I thought our chalkboard was for — grocery reminders. We had a slice of wall in the kitchen between the pantry and the bookshelf that I thought would be a good chalkboard. All I needed was a quart of black chalkboard paint, and, voila: a handy chalkboard. But our chalkboard became something else when my husband started writing Scripture verses on it. Grandchildren, neighbors, and friends all came eye to eye with his daily verses: “His mercies are new every morning.” “He loves us with an everlasting love.” “If I take the wings of the morning ...” or perhaps a hymn verse. Our board became far more than a place for “just words”; rather, a place for the Word of God — decorated, of course, with art by grandchildren.
