... they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Acts 17:11

Some people rejected Paul’s message that Jesus was the Messiah. The Jews in Berea had a different attitude. They listened carefully to Paul, but they did not stop there. They searched the Old Testament Scriptures to see if Jesus really was the Messiah foretold by the prophets. The Spirit was at work in the Word, as Scripture confirmed what they had heard.

Enlightened by the Holy Spirit through the Gospel, we love the Lord with heart and soul and mind (Matthew 22:37). We believe, heart and soul, as our minds seek to learn more about the truth. Like the Bereans, we search the Scriptures. We hear and read and think about the text and the meaning, about sentences and paragraphs, about all of those wonderful words that testify to Jesus!

Carol Geisler

Lord, guide me as I study your Word. Amen.

Reflect: Be like the Bereans and study the Scriptures every day.

Read: Matthew 22:34-40 and Acts 17:10-12
