And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all thing to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Ephesians 1:22-23
As Lutherans, we understand that the Ascension of Jesus does not make him more distant from us, but rather ever closer. Since Jesus Christ ascended with his flesh and body into heaven, you are promised that your old, sinful, and wretched body will rise someday to be like his at the resurrection of the dead (1 Corinthians 15).
Since Jesus “fills all things” (Ephesians 4:10) he is present everywhere in both his divine nature and human nature. In the Lord’s Supper Jesus says, “This is my body, this is my blood.” This means he is with you always, strengthening you in both body and soul forever.

Jesus Christ, remind me to fix my eyes on you and your Holy Word and Sacraments for my eternal salvation knowing you are with me always to the end of the age. Amen.
Reflect: Until your King of Kings comes again, remember that he is always near you.
