To Remember or Forget

November 7, 2024

My days are past; my plans are broken off, the desires of my heart.

Job 17:11

No doubt there are times in your past that you would like to forget. But what does God want you to remember about the past? Job had a lot of things in his past that he wanted to forget. God wanted Job to remember these words recorded in Job 19:25, “I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.”

God wants you to remember what he did in the past — that he sent Jesus to be your Redeemer through his death on the cross as the sacrifice for your sin, and to remember that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day to give you the assurance of life everlasting. That’s the good news of the past that is still the good news of the present.

Thank you, God, for giving me the gift to trust in Jesus as my Redeemer and victor over sin and death. Amen.

Reflect: Don’t let the devil make you forget the past, who God is, and what he has done.
