For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.
Hebrews 13:14
Where will you be on August 23, 2044? That headline caught my attention as media highlighted the next solar eclipse following the stunning astronomical event earlier this year. Although life as an older adult raises problems I can’t resolve, I confidently answered that headline question.
The description Jesus gave his disciples makes my future home easy to visualize: “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” (John 14:2-3). By August 23, 2044, if I’m not already in heaven, I’ll be nearly home.
As we crawl, plod, or race through aging, the certainty of knowing where we’re headed offers a clear vision for our time travel. Yet regardless of the roadblocks still ahead, we know for certain where we’re headed. Come, Lord Jesus.

Dear Father, thank you for watching over me as I edge ever closer to my heavenly home. Amen.
Reflect: Looking ahead, what do you most anticipate about heaven?
