Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
When I was in Girl Scouts, we sang a round with the words, “Make new friends, but keep the old. Some are silver, but the other gold.” Today, more than ever, “old friends” are a blessing. Reunions of school and church friends bring back wonderful memories. You recognize faces and immediately an event comes to mind. As a musician, remembering concerts or school musicals with friends always brings a smile.
A benefit of social media is that I can pray for friends who are having surgery, have a new grandchild, or are going through a tough time. These occasions are a reminder of how God has richly blessed us. God puts people in our lives — old and new — to remind us of him!

Dear God, thank you for the gold and silver in my life in the form of friends! Amen.
Reflect: Think about a friend who helped you through a difficult time.
