They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green.
Psalm 92:14
Senior citizens are often seen as retired and sedentary. God, however, has a new assignment for us when our work life is over. He asks that we minister to others, as we learn in Numbers 8:23-26 of the Bible.
The knowledge shared by seniors with younger generations, for example, can help them avoid making the same mistakes that we did. “Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days,” as we learn in Job 12:12. This could be something as simple as sharing our life stories with our grandchildren.
We can also minister to friends or other people in need of hope or help by being spiritual companions to them.

Dear Father, let me be a light to those I meet to show them how to live according to your will. Amen.
Reflect: How can you use your gifts to smooth the rough road of life that others travel?
