We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
2 Corinthians 5:20b
On July 4, 1826, two of our founding fathers and former Presidents, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, died on the same day. These friends had different ideas, opposing each other’s approach in establishing democracy. They soon became bitter enemies. Years later they reconciled, and their friendship endured until they died. We can learn from them to reconcile with friends from whom we have separated.
Our heavenly Father created us as his children. Soon our sinful rebellion made us God’s enemies. But God sent his Son to win us back: “in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them” (2 Corinthians 5:19). Jesus proclaims that we are now his friends, and he empowers us to reconcile with one another.

Thank you, Father, for reconciling us through your Son. Empower us to reconcile with each other. Amen.
Reflect: With whom can God help me reconcile today?
