Powerful Words

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32

“It is not your fault. It was an accident.” Recently, before passing away, Marybeth said these powerful words to her friend. Five years earlier, the friend was driving when an accident occurred that left Marybeth paralyzed. With these words, Marybeth took away the guilt her friend may have had. Marybeth’s powerful words demonstrated the strength of her faith and her desire to serve and obey her Savior’s teachings.

“Your sins are forgiven.” These words are even more powerful. During the confession and absolution part of the liturgy, these words gave comfort and hope to Marybeth and to all believers. Because of Jesus’ willingness to take all our sins and guilt to the cross, Marybeth and all believers will have eternal life. For this, give thanks and praise daily.

Stan Tordsen
Stewartville, MN

Lord, we thank you for your grace which gives comfort during our struggles. Amen.

Reflect: Who is struggling that you could give Christ’s powerful words of encouragement?
