As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
Psalm 42:1-2
Indeed! The God we long for is the God we first learned about when we were taught to pray, “Now I lay me down to sleep.” The God we thirst for is the God we learned about during Sunday School. And the living God we long for is the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who is present when a doctor softly knocks on the door of our examining room, enters with a stethoscope around his neck, a laptop in hand for notetaking, and the uncertainty that looms in the air.
What we learned about way back when fits now. God is with us. God cares about us. God loves us with a love that does not end.

Lord God, come to all people everywhere. We long for you! We thirst for you! Amen.
Reflect: Ponder God’s unending love and what it means for us.
