For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm ...
Isaiah 25:4
Noah’s family — his wife, three sons, and three daughters-in-law — lived among corrupt and violent people. “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord” (Genesis 6:8). “By faith Noah ... constructed an ark for the saving of his household” (Hebrews 11:7).
Today we remember how “eight persons, were brought safely through water” (1 Peter 3:20). Through the same faith that saved Noah’s family from the flood waters, we are saved by the water and the Word of baptism. By God’s grace, we live sheltered from the storms of life, past and present. Finally, when all storms cease, God beckons us through the open door into the bright new world of life with him forever.

Gracious God, my eyes are not on the storm, but on Jesus, the Door to life. Amen.
Reflect: Think of the storms you have weathered. How did God shelter and save you?
