Misplaced Anger

When a man’s folly brings his way to ruin, his heart rages against the Lord.

Proverbs 19:3

Have you ever ruined your life with a bad decision, then blamed the Lord for the trouble that resulted?

I can recall times when I knowingly chose the wrong thing, then pouted that God didn’t fix my situation. Secretly I blamed God because he is all-knowing and all-powerful and could have intervened for my benefit. My misplaced anger quickly became a barrier between me and the Lord.

It would have been so much better to confess my sins like David did in Psalm 51. Rather than nursing a raging heart against God, I should have offered him a broken and contrite heart (Psalm 51:17). Scripture promises the Lord won’t despise that kind of offering. Instead, he welcomes and blesses our humble repentance.

Sarah Geringer
Jackson, MO

Create a clean heart in me, O Lord, and renew a right spirit inside me. Amen.

Reflect: Are you holding on to anger? Confess, repent, and receive God’s grace.

Read: Psalm 4:4 and Psalm 7:10
