... the large crowd ... heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem ... they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna!” ...
John 12:12-13
Palm Sunday brings memories of children in procession, singing “Hosanna.” But processions in worship are more than cute moments. They remind us that, since the time of Abraham and Sarah, God always has his people moving. Today we remember more than the crowd’s reaction as Jesus and his disciples move from Bethany to Jerusalem. God is moving his people into the time of Christ’s deliverance of all by his obedience, suffering, death, and resurrection. No matter what our situation, we move daily in our pilgrimage toward our final home where we’ll join those in white robes, standing before the throne and the Lamb, holding palm branches, and singing (Revelation 7:9). Keep moving! Wave those palm branches! The song remains the same — one of hope, celebration, and victory!
