... He humbled himself ... becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Philippians 2:8
Our Savior Jesus Christ carried out his earthly ministry, obedient to the will of his heavenly
Father. As his death drew near, Jesus said, “For this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name” (John 12:27-28). In Gethsemane, Jesus prayed, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39).
The obedient Son went to the cross for us. By God’s grace, through faith in Jesus, our sins are forgiven. In the sight of God, we are clothed in Jesus’ righteousness, in his perfect obedience. Now we follow in Jesus’ footsteps as we, like our Savior, seek to do the will of our heavenly Father and bring glory to his name.

Dear Savior, teach me to take up my cross and follow you. Amen.
Reflect: Pray that God’s will would be done as you follow Jesus.
