So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation …
Psalm 71:18
Many of us believe that because we are old, we cannot do anything useful. How misguided is this attitude? Old and unable to do some things? Certainly. But useless? NO! One of the strongest weapons we seniors have is PRAYER. We can certainly be strong and energetic prayer warriors. We can pray for family, friends, pastors, and strangers. We can also talk to others about how God’s hand sustains us in our trials and tribulations. When my 93-year-old mother-in-law was dying, she continually prayed for the needs of her family, the staff, and other residents in her care facility. One of the hospice caregivers told my wife that after just fifteen minutes of talking with my mother-in-law, she convinced him that he needed to be back in church and in God’s word! Old, yes. Useless? NEVER!

Dear Lord, help me to remember that I am never too old to share your saving love with those around me. Amen.
Reflect: How can God use you today?
