God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”

Exodus 3:14

What is in a name? With the Lord, it is the very nature of his being. Moses wanted God’s name. “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you,’” God said. The Lord God is “the eternal present.”

The Lord is present with us. Always. To say that God was with us in years past is to say that he is present with us today. To say that God will always be with us into the eternal future is to say that he is present with us today. Always “I am.” Always Immanuel, God with us.

The Lord is with you today. The Lord is with you tomorrow. Rejoice and be glad. “I am” is with you, for you, protecting you, and rejoicing over you as his dear child.

Don Schatz
Lynnwood, WA

Oh Lord, thank you for the comfort that your name gives me. Amen.

Reflect: Believe that God is with you always!
