Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!
Psalm 100:2
Whether I’m eating in a restaurant, doing business in a local store, or on the phone with a service department, I increasingly encounter poor customer service. Though there are certainly those who serve very well, the value of service seems to be waning in our society.
I could continue my rant, but perhaps, I should instead look at my own attitude of service, especially as a member of the family of Christ Jesus. Truthfully, my own attitudes and efforts are often lacking. There are many times I have fallen down on the job. Yet I know the source of my motivation and the one who equips me for all good works — Jesus! He gave me an example of service, for he came “not to be served but to serve.” Focused on him, I can gladly serve him and those to whom he sends me.

Jesus, give me your servant heart, that I may cherish the work I do for you. Amen.
Reflect: Ask, “How may I help you?” and take Jesus’ lead in providing excellent service to them.
