... when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night ...
Psalm 63:6
With aging do you experience more sleepless nights, complete with a laundry list of unfinished tasks, anxieties, and sinful memories? The Psalmist meditates on God in the watches of the night “for you have been my help ... My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me” (Psalm 63:7-8).
I have found help from the evening hymn, “Abide with Me” (LSB 878) which points us to our eternal future: “Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me” (v.6).

Dear Lord, Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray Thee Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray Thee Lord my soul to take and this I ask for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
Reflect: Rest in him this night and forever.
