If anyone ... opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Revelation 3:20
A friend described her unusual prayer experience. For a long time, she had felt God was rather far away. This time she cried to him, and he showed up quite closely, “I could really feel him right next to me!” God’s presence was tangible to her. She knew he was physically present! Revelation 3:20 assures us that God is standing by our door knocking. If permitted, he “will come in and eat!” He offers to be a practical guest, even to share a meal, like any friend would. Joining us in eating is sharing a human experience, and God wants us to know he is THAT close!
From Jeremiah 23, we know God is “a God at hand, and not a God far away.” Daniel was strengthened by God’s human-like touch (Daniel 10:18). He physically felt him!

Lord, I open the door to you, so that your touch might strengthen me. Amen.
Reflect: What does it mean to you for God to join you at a meal?
