Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure ... think about such things.
Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
When my husband asked me if I’d listened to a particular podcast, I told him no. Although the program contained accurate news and cultural information, the steady diet of troublesome news was causing me to feel depressed and hopeless.
I want to stay informed about current events, but I also want to choose my news sources wisely and listen to just enough to know how to pray for our world without drowning in the details. The rest of the time, I want to fill my mind with thoughts and information that is not only true, but noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy. Bible reading and sermons, teaching programs, and praise music fit the guidelines Paul shared in Philippians 4:8.

Father, help me choose carefully what I allow into my ears, mind, and heart. Amen.
Reflect: Does what you allow into your mind strengthen you or discourage you?
