... the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep.
Matthew 8:24
According to his human nature, Jesus grew hungry and thirsty. He knew what it was like to feel exhausted, so as he crossed the Sea of Galilee with his disciples, he fell asleep. A storm came up and waves threatened to swamp the boat. The terrified disciples cried out to Jesus for help. He woke up and calmed the storm — and his disciples!
Like the frightened disciples, we cry out to Jesus in times of trouble. We may wonder if he is listening. Is he there? Does he hear us? As he was with the disciples, he is with us. He hears our prayers, and he is never asleep. When the storms of life threaten us, Jesus stills our fears and grants us his peace.

Jesus, when I am afraid, make my faith strong and fill me with your peace. Amen.
Reflect: When troubles threaten to swamp your life, ask Jesus to calm your fears.
