... Whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.
Romans 14:8
My life has included trials. Perhaps the most challenging have been times of loss.
As a senior, I am increasingly having to say goodbye to family, friends, and others who have reached the end of their earthly journey. On these occasions, I try not to dwell on my grief, but to console those who share my sadness.
Reminded of my own mortality, I sometimes worry about the signs of my own aging. I feel comforted, however, remembering that “for everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Above all, I know that “the Lord is my shepherd ...” (Psalm 23:1) and is always with me.

Dear Father, help me to grow in faith through every experience. Be with me as I share your comfort with those who are experiencing grief and sadness. Amen.
Reflect: How can you reach out to others in need of spiritual encouragement?
