Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:17
Growing up, I enjoyed talking with older adults. I learned from them. During college, I worked in the mail room of a large company. One day, while delivering mail, I had the opportunity to talk with the company Vice President. “To what do you contribute your success?” I asked. “Become the expert at something that must be done that nobody wants to do,” he said. His advice helped me successfully navigate my fifty-year career in the high-tech sector, and mentor several subordinates.
Aging adults are called by God in 1 Peter 5:2-3, to “... shepherd the flock of God that is among us ... being examples.” How? By sharing stories of how Christ is and has been present in your life with the younger generation, informing and inspiring Christ-centered lives.

Dear Father, thank you for the teachers whose words and actions have shown me how to be a good shepherd. Amen.
Reflect: Think about those who led you to a Christ-centered life, and those whose lives you enriched.
