Look ... to the things that are unseen ... the things that are unseen are eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:18
Picture Peter walking on water toward Jesus. Our Lord had called, and Peter braved the sea, unconcerned, watching his Lord. Thunder? Lightning? Crashing waves? They were nothing while he focused on Jesus; however, when he looked instead at that stormy sea, Peter began to sink.
We are like Peter. Turbulence enters our lives: loss of loved ones, a grim diagnosis, declining abilities, loneliness. Helpless, we mentally rehearse our troubles, giving them power over us. We could sink beneath the waves like Peter. But wait! Remember who is in control. “Be still and know that I am God.” Jesus reaches out just as when Peter was sinking. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus has secured eternity for us. Other things will pass away, but his words, presence, love, and forgiveness will never pass away.

Dear Jesus, hold my hand and focus my eyes on you. Amen.
Reflect: Make a list of blessings, and thank our Lord for them every day.
