... continue in the fear of the Lord all the day. Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
Proverbs 23:17b-18
On their way to church for the New Year’s Eve service, the wife (unwisely) let her mind wander back through the troubles, trials, and tragedies that had marred the year. “It’s tempting to look ahead with dread,” she commented. Wisely, the husband responded, “Then you’re not looking far enough ahead.”
Ah, yes. Remember the words of Jesus, “Let not your hearts be troubled” (John 14:1) and the inspired words of Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” The past may be marred and the present uncertain. But looking far enough ahead, with faith in Jesus our Savior, living in his hope, the future is glorious indeed.

Timeless Lord, keep me looking far enough ahead, with faith, hope, and joy that I may not focus on the past troubles, trials, and tragedies. Amen.
Reflect: Rest assured; God still blesses each present day with bountiful gifts of love.
