Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

Romans 7:24

If there is a verse that has gotten me through some tough times, especially those times when I only had myself to blame, it is this one. I cannot count how many times I have felt helpless to ever make myself right before God, only to remember that I don’t need to make myself right, because God has made me right and delivered me from that darkness through Jesus.

As I get older, and those aches and pains persist, I am reminded of this verse too. This body is doomed to death, but a new body will rise. It will be a perfectly resurrected body, just like Christ’s. This too gives me hope. May this verse and those like it fill you with hope and peace today!

Lord, remind me daily that you already have and will deliver me from this body of death. Amen.

Reflect: Go to a cemetery with the bodies of people you know. Thank God for them.
