“For I the Lord do not change ...”
Malachi 3:6
My husband’s grandfather went about on horse and buggy in his youth. When he was in his nineties, astronauts landed on the moon. He said, “Bah humbug!” I remember thinking of air travel as a rare, coveted experience; now we hop on an airplane as if boarding a bus. Change!
Wars and rumors of wars (Matthew 24:6) accelerate change and history repeats itself. Israel didn’t learn; neither does the modern world. We seniors have lived long enough to see these cycles repeat themselves “like shifting shadows” (James 1:17 NIV). Shadows disappear when we look directly at God. James guides us to our only anchor, our God.

Eternal and changeless God, thank you for forgiveness. Help us to keep our eyes on you and know that you are our constant. Amen.
Reflect: When the sun is overhead, we don’t make shadows. Jesus shines on us like the noon day sun.
