... forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal ...
Philippians 3:13-14
You could spot him: one child running hard yet destined to lose the race. Despite great effort, his backward glances split his focus and energy. Sure enough, he loses.
At year’s end, we review the last 12 months. It’s a good tradition; we can learn from the past. While a look back is healthy, constantly reviewing the past is not. It’s tempting to relive “better” times or live in regret of past mistakes. Instead, use this new year to share Jesus. Ahead are prayers we can pray, love we can show, forgiveness we can offer. Until Jesus returns, each day is another opportunity to press on toward the goal knowing “our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await ... Jesus Christ.” Now that is something to look forward to!

Dear Jesus, show us how we can love others for you this year. Amen.
Reflect: Resolve to show Jesus’ love in big and small ways this new year.
