Are You Listening?

Then you will call upon me ... pray to me, and I will hear you.

Jeremiah 29:12

I just saw a cartoon from New Yorker Magazine (Instagram) by @maggiejanelarson. It said, “I talk to myself because I listen.” It struck me as funny! Could it be that cellphones intrude on our conversations? Are we too busy to spend time and be present for each other?

Even if it feels as though no one else is listening, we are assured by God that he hears our cry (Psalm 40:1), he knows our every thought — even better than we know our own (1 Corinthians 13: 12), and that God is always nearby (Psalm 145:18-19).

Maybe today, with this assurance from God our Savior, we can be a listening ear to someone who needs a friend. Maybe even share a laugh!

Dear Lord, thank you that you hear my every thought and still love me so much that you sent Jesus, my Savior. Amen.

Reflect: Has God made you a better listener or talker? Thank God for both.

Read: 1 John 5:14-15 and Psalm 18:3
