A Thermometer or Thermostat?

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth ...

John 16:13

Many Christians in our society today are acting more like thermometers than thermostats. They are reflecting the spiritual and moral climate of their surroundings, so they can fit in with the beliefs and values of people around them, and not offend anyone or cause a stir.

Too few of us are like thermostats — letting the Holy Spirit use us to help change the spiritual and moral environment in which we live. It’s not easy to stand up boldly for Jesus Christ and the truths of the Bible. But when we rely on the Spirit of truth, he will give us the faith, courage, and guidance to make a difference. He will enable us to reflect the light and love and truths of Jesus in our words and actions.

Gil Duchow
Muskego, WI

Spirit of Truth, fill my heart and mind with your precious truths, so I may be a beacon to those living in spiritual darkness. Amen.

Reflect: How can God help you be more like a thermostat than a thermometer.
