In our Christian walk of faith, there’s a timeless reminder that resonates deeply with those who’ve journeyed through life’s seasons—the unwavering commitment to sharing one’s beliefs, even when faced with adversity. Some time ago I was asked to give a prayer at a special event. I told the organization I would be honored to do so. However, a little later they followed back around to explain that the honorees of a prestigious award were Jewish, and therefore, the organization wanted to ensure that my prayer would not reference Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Have you been in a situation where you were asked not to speak of your faith? That was the situation the apostles found themselves in Acts 4:20, which encapsulates this principle: “For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” This verse, deeply rooted in faith, speaks to the steadfast convictions that we as Christians are to possess. It resonates with the unshakable faith of believers who cannot help but share the transformative message of the Gospel.
Throughout history, Christians have faced adversity and persecution for their faith. Perhaps you yourself have courageously shared your own beliefs, even when confronted with opposition or danger. God’s Word proclaims the freedom to express one’s faith and advocate for religious liberty. It speaks to the enduring relevance of faith in a world that may sometimes overlook the voices of the older generation.
In a world where secularism and skepticism have become more prevalent, there’s a call to confess Christ through outreach efforts. With your wealth of life experiences, you are uniquely positioned to speak boldly about your faith, whether in your community or through ministries like Worship Anew.
Worship Anew is a ministry that engages and equips aging adults with resources to live a full and abundant life in Jesus Christ. It offers a platform for believers, especially those in the later chapters of life, to remain steadfast in the faith while also sharing that Gospel message with others. Through our many resources, Worship Anew extends the reach of the Gospel to those who are earnestly seeking to be connected to God’s Word.
Our faith goes beyond words and is manifested in compassion, service, and love for others. The example set by early Christians who lived out their beliefs remains an inspiration, especially to older believers who have witnessed the transformative power of faith in action.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a Lutheran pastor and theologian during World War II, exemplified the principles of faith, unwavering witness, and service. He stood up against a terrible dictator, even though it was very dangerous. His life serves as a reminder that faith calls us to action, even in the face of great adversity.
As we reflect on Acts 4:20 and these timeless principles, we are reminded that faith, regardless of age, is a beacon of light. It inspires and guides, offering hope and peace through the gifts of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Your stories and your faith continue to shine brightly, bringing the message of Christ’s love to those near and far. In a world that needs the transformative power we have through faith in Jesus Christ, your enduring witness is a gift that keeps on giving. Through ministries like Worship Anew, your faith journey continues, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and lives of others.
