Where Do You Stand?

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist …

Ephesians 6:14 NIV

As a child, I recall we sang a song, the words of the stanzas have escaped me, but it had a chorus that went something like this:

Standing, Standing, Standing on the promises of God my Savior.
Standing, Standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.

To verbally recite a creedal statement is taking a stand. To refuse to be a participant in a conversation that could damage the reputation of another person is taking a stand. Did you know that when someone was going to read from a biblical scroll in the Temple or synagogue, they would stand up. That stand was on the Word of God. When we trust His Word, read His Word, believe His Word, and apply His Word, we are standing on a divine foundation.

Jerrold Lloyd Nichols

Gracious Lord, grant me the “Wonderful Counselor” to identify those things that I can stand on that will bring glory to Your name. Amen.

Reflect: Have you ever heard the phrase, If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything?

Read: Ephesians 6:10-18 and Psalm 1
