“... my steadfast love shall not depart from you …”
Isaiah 54:10
Growing up in the Midwest, I had no experience with earthquakes. However, after visiting Pompeii’s devastation from a volcanic explosion in 79 AD, I have a better sense of the effects of a mountain being shaken. How terrified the residents of Pompeii must have been when the ground beneath them began to shake as the mountain roared!
We remember God’s promise to be our safety and strength in time of earth shattering (or life shattering) events. We need not fear even though life changes threaten our landscape. When our lives are shaken, the Almighty Creator assures us that He will never leave us; His love will withstand every challenge. After all, His son, Jesus, guaranteed by His resurrection that even death cannot harm us.
