Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.
Luke 23:34
These words from Luke are the words of our Savior as He looked down from the cross at those who crucified Him.
As I sit in the front pew, reserved for those who can’t climb the stairs to the altar for Holy Communion, I look up at the crucifix and wonder if Jesus is saying, “Father, forgive her because she doesn’t know what she has done.”
And then it happens, the pastor speaks words of forgiveness followed by Holy Communion — the bread/body and wine/blood of Jesus. They are simple moments, simple elements with eternal promises. Then comes the benediction blessing. I don’t know the extent of my sins, but I know God’s forgiveness and grace.
The ultimate renewal and refreshment has happened, preparing me for a new start. I am forgiven. Now I can forgive others and serve God according to His design and will.

Dear Lord, thank You. Your forgiveness is so much stronger than my sin. Amen.
Reflect: Smile at someone you usually try to avoid. Is it a sister/brother in Christ?
