My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:26
My nephew is a grown man now, married, with school-aged children. While we’ve bonded since he was quite young, we share mostly secular news and tourist activities.
Before he came to town on business, God prepared me to connect on a deeper, spiritual level. Within about ten minutes of picking him up I asked, “How is your prayer life?” His wide eyes and slight gasp conveyed his surprise!
I explained, “I’d love to hear whatever you’d like to share!” He gradually responded with some quite personal comments, leading us to a touching conversation about feeling our Father’s love. I’m so glad my elderly confidence equipped me to risk the question!

Father, even in brief moments, give my heart the strength and courage to encourage those who come after me. Amen.
Reflect: Does God see you as failing flesh or a lively heart?
