And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:4
During a recent visit with my daughter’s family in Colorado, I had the “opportunity” to go sledding with my granddaughter. My instinct would have been to overcompensate steering down the bumpy, steep hill. However, heeding the advice of my experienced son-in-law, I remained steady and glided down successfully! Trusting my son-in-law’s advice meant following his directions rather than my own instincts. That was the key to my safety. Likewise, I have a Savior, experienced with hardship and suffering, who is steadfast and faithful to me in all circumstances. So, no matter how rough the ride in this life, I don’t have to rely on my own instincts or plans to get out of trouble. Instead, I can remain steady, turn to Jesus, and trust Him to carry me through all of life’s trials.

Jesus, help me to be steadfast in difficult times, leaning on Your promises, that I may be perfect, complete, and lack nothing. Amen.
Reflect: Consider how Jesus has carried you through trials. How do you remain steadfast in difficult times?
