Cleanse out the old leaven. … For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
1 Corinthians 5:7
It seems Jesus was interested in bread. Many times, He taught using bread and the leavening process to make it. Luke 13:21 explains how the kingdom grows; a few believers can affect a large community when working to follow Jesus. Paul also emphasizes bread; he taught that we are new, unleavened bread in Christ, who has sacrificed Himself for our sin and made us new creations (1 Corinthians 5:7). According to Google, sourdough starter is a special form of organisms — a leavening community — called SCOBY: symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. I think of the smaller amount of yeast in my sourdough starter. Bacteria dominate the starter, and when fed, grows the yeast. As my starter is the leaven for every loaf baked, we, through our Lord Jesus, bring His fragrance to our community where God has placed us in this season of life.
