Ready for Adventure

Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

Genesis 12:4b

Did you catch that in the opening verse? Abram was an older adult when God called him to journey from Haran to Canaan. He had already journeyed from his homeland of Ur to Haran, and now God directed Abram to relocate again. Abram did not question God; he just did as he was told.

About a year ago, I accepted the part-time position of senior adult ministry coordinator at my church. I am a few years older than Abram was when he accepted his new challenge, and mine is nowhere near as daunting. I do try to be open to new challenges.

Our culture seems to promote the senior years as a time to relax and rest from our labor. I struggle with that. I believe God is always calling us to something new.

Dear Jesus, help me to see new opportunities to serve You this day. Amen.

Reflect: How can you use your life experiences to serve others? What opportunities for service do you see?

Read: Genesis 12:1-4 and Isaiah 6:8-13
