Quiet Me

The Lord your God … will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Zephaniah 3:17

As you know, along with aging come changes. For me, a most disturbing change is a vocal cord disorder which has robbed me of my singing voice. I have always loved singing, especially beloved hymns and spiritual songs, and I came to deeply miss singing.

A friend who knew I was grieving this loss gave me a mug emblazoned with the picture of a waterfall and the words of Zephaniah 3:17. At once, I felt God’s love wash over me with the realization that it wasn’t about my outward expressions of singing, but about soaking in the songs that surround me and being quieted in His love.

As always, contentment is never about me. It’s only about God’s love for me in Jesus.

Jane Wilke
Woodbury, MN

Lord, quiet me with Your love during these seasons of loss and change. Amen.

Reflect: What changes or losses are you experiencing? How is God quieting you in His love?

Read: Isaiah 26:3 and John 14:27
