Serve the Lord with gladness!
Psalm 100:2
It wasn’t hard for me to choose a vocation of service. God wouldn’t allow me to do what I wanted to do: be a garbage man. Those huge orange trucks staffed by drivers who could navigate narrow Chicago alleys and guys yelling “go” just seemed wonderful. I was six.
While I believe God would have made me a dedicated and devoted trash collector, I grew to like the prospects of being a successful businessperson. Maybe work for an ad agency writing catchy copy. I was 16.
And then came the college years during which I migrated from business to Lutheran education and a lifetime of teaching. God pushed me into it.
The moral of my story? Serve the Lord wherever he pushes you. And give a few others a shove in that direction too.

Dear Lord, make me service minded. Amen.
Reflect: Work “service to others” into your conversations with prospects.
