… God has called us to live in peace.
1 Corinthians 7:15b NIV
Smack dab in the middle of 1 Corinthians, in an obscure place, I found PEACE. Paul’s letter disseminates instructions on marriage, divorce, unbelief, circumcision, virginity, and slavery. Wow, there’s peace among all that? YES! In the verse above.
Isn’t “peace” a funny thing as we age? We find it on Christmas cards, Advent banners, and on the nightly news regarding foreign nations. However, we do not precisely sense “peace” when we feel forgotten by our family or see little peace in marriages around us. Daunting quietness even brings sadness! Although we cannot touch peace, it is a “fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22). He gives it to us all because of Jesus! Jesus gave us His peace in John 14:27, but not as the world understands it. Since you are in Christ, His promised peace is yours despite the troubling circumstances all around you.
