God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1

One meaning of the word “present” used in the Bible is that it means now, current time, not far away, being present at a certain time or situation. Psalm 46:1 indicates that God is present. The word “present” is used with another meaning. The word “present” is referred to as a gift given to someone. It also refers to someone who is being introduced. It is interesting to note that this word “present” is used to refer to Jesus in all these meanings. Jesus is a gift from God — a gift of forgiveness and life. God introduces Jesus as the Son of God. Colossians 1:15-29 presents Jesus to all people. Jesus is present with us and presented to us as a gift from God.

Thank, you God, for presenting Jesus by saying, “This is my beloved Son, Jesus, listen to him.” Thank you for your gift of grace, peace, and joy. Amen.

Reflect: God is not a God of the past. God is always present.

Reading: John 14:18-20 and Ephesians 2:4-10
