… O Bethlehem … from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel …
Micah 5:2
God promised a ruler, a savior, to be present with us. Then God sent His Son, in human flesh, born as a baby in Bethlehem. Doesn’t that demonstrate true compassion for us?
Centuries before Jesus was born, God communicated pieces of His plan to certain individuals. He wanted us to know of His empathy for us. Micah prophesied that God would send a ruler from Bethlehem. Isaiah foretold that the virgin’s child would be called “God with us,” (Immanuel). Abraham was assured that a blessing for all would come from his family line. When we celebrate Jesus’ physical life on earth, we recognize our Father’s concern for humanity. Because Jesus came in human flesh to be the sacrifice for our sins, we can better understand God’s desire to take on our challenges and weaknesses.

My God, I praise You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to live among us. Amen.
Reflect: How do you feel about our Lord foreshadowing His birth?
