A threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:12b
“I do it myself!” This is the exclamation of every 2-year-old striving for independence. This is great when the goal is to dress oneself, but independence is not always the best strategy. In fact, Christians are not designed for independence but to live “in-dependence” of God and of fellow members of the Body of Christ.
As we mature, we learn how vulnerable we are to the attacks of Satan, the world, and even ourselves. “I do it myself!” just doesn’t work! Jesus provides us with strength to face all trials and temptations when two or three gather to pray, encourage one another, study God’s Word together, serve together, and forgive one another. God not only knit us together as individuals, He weaved us together as brothers and sisters in Christ — a bond that is not quickly broken!

Lord, forgive me when I try to handle things myself. Help me live in-dependence of You and the Christian friends You have given me. Amen.
Reflect: Identify other Christians with whom you can pray, study God’s Word, and carry each other’s burdens.
