And let the peace of Christ rule in your heart, to which indeed you were called in one body.
Colossians 3:15
What we need in our world is an army of listeners to help combat loneliness. As I learn about spiritual guidance and pastoral care, listening has taken on a whole new dimension. We hear with our ears and listen with our heart.
Jesus Christ shows us the way. Listening takes us on a journey with a person through whatever he or she may be facing and feeling. “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15). Regardless of age, every person needs to be heard; to know someone cares.
Providing loving kindness, patience, compassion, and listening says, “You are not alone.” With God’s grace, when we lend an ear, we open our hearts and give hope to individuals in need of healing. “Take care then how you hear” (Luke 8:18).

Dear Jesus, help me to be a good listener so that I may share Your loving graces with those who are lonely. Amen.
Reflect: Ponder in your heart what it means to listen and the healing it provides.
