... you became imitators of us and of the Lord ...

1 Thessalonians 1:6

I remember my mom and dad often, and especially on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. God blessed me with parents who led me to know Jesus and his love. They guided, corrected, supported, and loved me. God called them home years ago, but I continue to remember, with thanks, their godly example.

The Apostle Paul commends the believers for being an example for others to follow. “You became imitators of us and of the Lord,” he says in the above verse. They had imitated Paul, who had imitated Christ.

We can be a positive influence on our family and friends even after the Lord calls us home. But until that day, we can pray daily for the Lord to guide and bless them.

Thank you, Father, for parents and mentors who guided and encouraged us. Teach us to follow their example, imitating them as they imitated Christ. In his precious name. Amen.

Reflect: Write an old-fashioned letter to a loved one, affirming and encouraging them.

Read: 1 Thessalonians 1:2-10 and 2 Timothy 1:3-7
