Lord, if you will ...
Matthew 8:2
When you’re sick, how do you pray? An unnamed leper gives us a prayer lesson. Kneeling to show his devotion and respect, this man expresses his confidence that Jesus can do for him what no other can. He’s implying that if Jesus wants to, chooses to, wills it, he will be healed. This fellow doesn’t demand healing, rather he is requesting it.
You too can ask God for what you need. “If you will Lord, heal me. Take away my pain. Give me renewed strength.” Then add, “your will be done” (Matthew 6:10). Know that God will do what is best for you. Adding these words is a way of recognizing our prayers will not always be answered in the way we want. These words are a statement of belief and trust that God’s way is the best way. That’s always true, isn’t it?

Lord, if you will, heal me. Always and forever, your will be done. Amen.
Reflect: What do you want and need from God?
