This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.
Psalm 119:50
Recently a thirty-something friend of mine had her second miscarriage. Shattered expectations and hopelessness swirled in my head for them ... again! The mental and physical gymnastics she and her husband went through to become pregnant a second time — only to lose another precious little one — was overwhelming and rendered us all speechless. What could God be doing? We couldn’t see through our silent tears searching for the joy and contentment we’re supposed to have through trials. Whether you’re the devastated parents-to-be or the senior citizen friend offering consolation, turning to God is the only answer … but where to start? We parked ourselves on Psalm 119:50, as we all needed God’s abiding promises to desperately cling to so we could once again abound in the hope of life amidst their burden of death.
