Grateful Instead of Grumbly

… Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good ...

Psalm 100:4-5

I fussed at my husband the other day for forgetting to pick up a prescription from the pharmacy. “You’re right,” he said. “I did forget. But did you notice that I hung the picture in the spare bedroom and filled the bird feeder?” I had to admit, I hadn’t.

Sometimes, I treat God the way I treated my husband. When He fails to do what I hoped He’d do, I grumble. When He takes time answering my requests, I fuss. I miss many of God’s kind acts and the way He meets my needs every day. Pastor John Piper says, “God is always doing 10,000 things in your life, but you may be aware of three of them.” We serve a good God, who loves to give good gifts to His children. I can honor Him by focusing more on what He has done than what He hasn’t.

Lord, help me be more grateful than grumbly. Amen.

Reflect: List evidence of five ways God cared for you today.

Read: Psalm 107:8-9 and Psalm 145:5
